Confronting the mayhem in Media and Marketing

The March of QR Codes™

Curious what the current state of interest for mobile barcodes is, I decided to check out Google. The novelty stage may have worn off, largely due to their up-front obstacles and poor implementations by some marketing and print providers. But is that what the data is showing in terms of the interest graph reported by Google?

According to Google Insights, the term QR Code™ shows a fairly steady interest level, as shown through search results, over the past 12 months as indicated by the chart below. The two chart axis represents time and a normalized search value. In other words, the scale is not true search results numbers but an average deviation represented on a 0-100 scale.

As of yesterday the Google Keyword Tools shows an average global search rate of over 2 million for the term. Not great but not bad.

Where is the interest coming from?

  1. United States
  2. New Zealand
  3. Canada
  4. United Kingdom
  5. Ireland
  6. Australia
  7. South Africa
  8. Netherlands
  9. Singapore
  10. Denmark

Interestingly, there are no early adopter countries such as Japan or Korea represented in this list although this could be due to regional search engine variations.

Even through the inherent and vendor made flaws, consumers interest in mobile barcodes might not be over yet.
