Fear manifests itself in many ways. There is the fear caused by imminent danger. The shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho is a good example of this type of fear.
A more common, yet no less dangerous, fear we face is the fear of the unknown. Not being able to predict or know the outcome can keep us in an invisible prison. Our fear of what could or might happen keeps us from sky diving, having kids, starting your restaurant, or flying to Hawaii.

The same fear is present in business too. We fear learning new software, buying new equipment, offering a different product, killing our current cash cow, and so on and so on.
Luckily, there are ways to minimize this fear, part of what Seth Godin refers to as our lizard brain. We can take small steps or place small bets until we get to the endpoint. We can observe and learn from those who have already made the leap as in lots of people fly to Hawaii so I can too.
Or we can face it. Defy it. Become fearless which just might bring truth to the adage “less is more.”
