Confronting the mayhem in Media and Marketing

Social Media Maven: Anne Stewart from Hotcards

Anne Stewart, Online Managing Editor @Hotcards

Can you give us an introduction to Hotcards business Twitter style – in 140 characters or less?
Anne: Hotcards is a low cost, eco-friendly, full-service printer, direct mail manager, and graphic design house – check us out at www.hotcards.com!
What was your first social media platform?
Anne: Our first foray into social media was none other than good ol’ MySpace, although I’m embarrassed to say that it’s been a while since the Hotcards MySpace page received regular maintenance. Should I dust it off, or put up a condemned sign?
mbossed: How many platforms have you now extended your reach to?
Anne: It’s a bit hard to say, since each of our twelve locations is self-directed when it comes to running promotions. However, the main branch here in Cleveland is active on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Digg, Reddit, favshare, as well as on industry-geared networks like DesignFloat, designrfix, and PrintJunkie.
mbossed: Do you have several people or one person interacting with the blog, Twitter, etc?
Anne: At the main branch in Cleveland, everybody contributes thoughts and ideas for the blog, although I fill the roll as managing editor and most of the posts are written by me. While I run our Twitter account, other team members tweet about their work on personal design or print focused accounts. And our Facebook fan pages and groups are managed by individuals throughout various branches, and contributed to by employees and customers alike.
mbossed: How much estimated time do you think is spent on all of Hotcards social media in a week?
Anne: Investing time in social media development can really creep up on you. If I estimated six hours a week, the truth would probably be more along the lines of twelve. Social media only works if you’re really taking the time to socialize, in my experience. No cheats allowed!
