Regulars of m-bossed.com know by now that we love software as a service (SaaS) and cloud based software solutions. Outside of web-to-print applications, most software applications used by printers are installable applications. Of course, locally installed software loses the benefits of cloud based applications such as lower costs, little local administration, and data protection.
The good news is that start-up companies are pushing the envelope of what is possible and available for printers. Keen, a new venture out of San Francisco, is attempting to launch a complete eCommerce, marketing, and management platform. Customer resource management and management information system software are the next logical business systems to be migrated to the cloud, but are far from the only possibilities. Prepress workflows, color management, production dashboards, etc., will eventually come to market.
