In my view, print has always thrived and morphed as necessary, exactly because it is a "cog" in the information distribution business. It's prosaic being a cog. But President Obama was recently quoted as saying "Caulking is sexy." The point of course is that it's now time to turn away from marketing for a while and towards building resilient infrastructure What I'm seeing is that"fear of the web" and the glory days of "the next new thing" 9driven by lots of funny money) are ebbing.
