Should you blog?

Reasons Why I Blog

10 months – the amount of time since the inaugural post at m-Bossed…plenty of lessons learned.

  • I have always been an Information Maven – just as interested in distributing information as learning it.
  • In support of #1, a blog provides a larger audience than friends, family, and work colleagues.
  • Despite my best efforts, I am better with words than numbers according to the many standardized tests I have taken like the ACT, SAT, and GMAT.
  • All aspects of the printing, publishing, and graphic arts industries are fascinating, so why not debate, disseminate, and champion them.

A few Reasons to Blog

  1. Allows you to talk about your business without first selling the business.
  2. Gives a human voice to a sterile website or company culture.
  3. Press releases are dead and irrelevant.
Two way conversations with your customers are better.
  4. Customers can get to know the people behind the company and what interests them.
Best for collaborative group blogs where employees are free to voice opinions.
  5. Blogs, with other social media, provide instant and cheap market research.
  6. Sales lead generation.
  7. Cheap, easy to setup online presence.
  8. Blog services and blogging platforms allow for easy SEO, search engine optimization.
Potentially ranks you higher in the searches than competitors.
  9. Establishes street cred in understanding digital (social media) as well as analog (print).
  10. Makes you better at writing and communicating.

Why Not to Blog

  1. What blogging does not take in costs, it takes in time!!!
  2. You don’t want a conversation with your customers.
  3. You don’t believe ethics and business mix.
  4. You don’t trust your employees.
  5. You still think the Walkman is current technology.
